Translation 101 and Cucumis Translation Guidelines

If not implemented yet, I suggest the site does them.

I would like to emphasize the need for translation guidelines, and it would be appreciated if you could develop two versions, a quick guide and an extended one.

At least a FAQ section dealing with questions like how do I go about such and such, should be developed.

For example, I would like a guide to draw the line between approving and rejecting a translation.

This is quite apart from Cucumis, but Wikipedia has some good descriptions of the goals, processes, and techniques of translation. And, being Wikipedia, in some cases there are equivalent pages in many, many languages.

Until you become an expert you do not need to decide whether to accept or reject a translation. When you are the requester, you can decide, but as a rule you should not do so. Instead, let us apply the cucumis peer review process to the translation; the target may be edited and much improved before an expert accepts it. Presumably, if you were an expert in the target language you would not need cucumis to translate your source text for you.
