I'm just curious about the operation system which runs on cucumers' computers.

[A] I'm a inveterated fan of Windows
[B] I have both Windows and Linux
[C] I LOVE LINUX!!!
[D] Who needs a PC when there is a Mac?
[E] What are you talking about?

Well, for me B suits: Windows at work () and Linux (Kubuntu) at home (). JP once said me that Cucumis also runs on a Linux server

Anyway: I wanted [C] all the time!

What about you?

-I've got Windows xp at the moment, next time I'll buy a PC I'll probably have Windows vista, which I don't know yet.

-I heard about Linux in 2005, and I was told it was a very safe O.S.from viruses. One year later I heard Linux wasn't anymore so safe from viruses.

-I heard Mac was much better than Windows, but it is also much more expensive than a PC (double the price I think); As I'm situated at the bottom of social scale, and as I'm living with the lowest (social as well) incomes, I guess I won't buy a Mac unless I play at some national lottery (but as I never play..lol!)

- I recently found a much cheaper access dealer, (and maybe I'll be logged off temporary, waiting for my new PC/phone connection), but it still is worth to switch access dealer here in France, as the one I found is about twice cheaper, and its "réseau" is very well covered in my area.

[F]I've what I have...

Windows 2000, but, Francky, I suggest you to remain with XP, I don't think you REALLY need a Mac.
I suggest you XP because is more "universal" than a Linux, and for your utilisation (like mine, not too informatical) a Windows system goes really good.

Before xp I had windows98SE, and if a friend of mine didn't loan me his computer (as he is renovating a house, and there's a lot of dust which is no good at all for a PC), I still would be with this ol'computer.

I'm going to buy a new one in a few months, and now all PC which work with Windows, you can see they are with Windows vista.

Now a good quality/price report PC is around 600 Euros,(screen not included) in some places you can buy one and pay in several parts, it is an item the price of which decreased a lot in the last five years, as the one I got (my friend's)costed double in 2002 of what it is costing now (2000 euros including printer/scanner/copier/flat LCD screen, you can have all that, same quality for half of it now!).

But right, I'll stay with a Windows system, but it will be "vista", because, not pretty far from now, windows will do as they already did for preview O.S. : when you'll have a problem and ask for some support, they will tell : "sorry, but up from september 2008, we don't provide any more support for windows xp, you've got to upgrade your Operating System.

Now, they don't provide anymore support for the widows 98SE I had on my former computer.

Hehe, you've got to be a good consumer and switch your material as often as they want you to do it, this is the world we're living in, Davide...

Cucumis is hosted on a Linux server that I administrate through a shell (no mouse, no windows, only a keyboard and prompt).

But as for me, I've just bought a laptop, so I'm running on Vista now.
I'm not sure I could use LINUX because I need Adobe flash to develop my games. and I don't think it exists on LINUX. Mac could be OK.

In school I have learned how to use Linux, but I prefer Windows, I´m using XP. To me, it´s not about IT monopoly etc., it´s just that most PCs still use Windows and most programs are better avaialable etc. to Windows. Soon we may get a new PC, that may already run Vista. Well, that´s all.
