I was on Wikipedia.org and wanted to get some text translated, so I went to a Usenet newsgroup and on the newsgroup Cucumis was mentioned.

hehe I wanted to open a thread like that too. It's really interesting.
In my case, it was just a coincidence. I wanted to have something translated, just for fun, then I forgot about that page for some (long) time, until I found it again and somehow couldn't help logging in regularly, anymore. =)

I was reading a weblog that I usually do, where cucumis was alluded to in the comments. I haven't quit since then.

Someone won a lot of points with my translations, I found cucumis in a forum at orkut.com... Sure it was an affiliation link, hehe.

If you have an orkut account, check your affiliates link and see if I'm there.

I was looking for free translation into Latin (not necessarily automatic) in order to confirm whether my translation of "Only knowledge emancipates" (my personal motto) gives "Scientia sola emancipat". After very heavy googling, I finally found . The rest of the story is already known...

I found out about by reading an article in a (French) Belgian magazine for high school called "Panache"; there was an article about Web 2.0 and it gave Cucumis, next to FlickR and Youtube, as an example of a site that's built around input from different people.

I believe Tristangun (had to) read the same article, hence the fact that we're from the same country and have the same age

I found it by accident. I was looking for Spanish MP3 lessons to download. I went to a language site which had a link to this site and voila! here I am. I liked the concept of free translation since I believe in sharing of knowledge as opposed to being selfish with it.

It was UnaSmith that first told me about cucumis.org

She'd already spoken to me about the site a few months before, so when I created my international teratoma forum in May last year, and decided that it should be a multilingual forum, she reminded me about cucumis.

I'm really glad she did, because it was love at first sight for me too
