I must learn Danish quite fast but where I live there are no Danish teachers so all that I've learnt (very little actually) is self-taught and I'm going mad in this way (for the pronunciation!!!)....I can speak Italian and English well, and I can help with French and Spanish (intermediate level)

I really doubt you can pronounce correctly if you do not live in Denmark. I live in a country which has Danish as second official language and even though I understand and can read Danish, is almost impossible for me to learn the pronounciation. My husband tried several time to explain, but the difference of using the tongue between us, the Latin based languages (I am Romanian), and the Nordic language speakers is very big.

Maybe one of the Danish guys has a better idea. But from my experience, you have to be taught by somebody who knows how to explain the pronounciation or if you will have the opportunity to live there for while than you'll get it. In Denmark there are schools for the foreigners where the first hours they teach only pronounciation technics.

PS. Just as a simple example: KONGE - g is silent and the n has to be pronounced with the base of the tongue raised against the "roof" of the mouth... Never managed to say it as the Danes. This so-called glottal stop is a nightmare.

And if you learn Norwegian, for example, which is easier to pronounce and you talk Norwegian to the Danish people, no one will have problems understanding you. The languages look alike, a lot.

Lene.
