Nice idea Aneta

This is Strängnäs, Sweden.

I've no photo taken this year, but since it looks about the same as last year (No snow and they decorate the town about the same every year ) I'll add a few from 2008. Unfortunately, they are taken during day light, more Christmas "spirit" when the darkness fall.

Yes, the idea came to my mind when I was driving a car. Was just going along our main street "Świętojańska" - look above - this picture wasn't taken by me and it is also from the previous year, but the street looks the same every year at this time... Cities look wonderful around Christmas time! I was curious to know how it looks in your places...

Thanks a lot for sharing it with us!

I started the thread just yesterday, because that day (6th December) we celebrate St. NICHOLAS DAY (of common Santa CLAUS) in Poland... We can see a lot of Santas at our streets that day...

Saint Nicholas

Yikes, the last one is QUITE big! If somebody can make it smaller, I don't mind!
It's a great theme for this time of year!

Very impressive photos, Freya! Thank you! I'm afraid that you should have minimized the picture before submitting here, but I think the pic is worth the great size!!!
It's a pity very few cucumers want to share it with us...

Hello Freya,
Wow, such a nice photo. It has become my desktop image.
About the size... You can resize when you open it on you computer with Windows Fax Viewer or whatever program you're using to open photos. Resize for web size or whatever other options you have there, before you take the photo to the website you're using to get the code that allows you to post on the web.
I hope I haven't made you confused.
Again, very nice photo.

P.S. So, you're from Galaţi...

Hello Aneta, I didn't know St. Nicholas (or Sinterklaas as we call him) is celebrated in Poland as well!
Sinterklaas and Santa Claus are two different figures over here though, however they're clearly etymologically connected.
SK
As you can see, he's larger, skinnier, wears different clothes and rides a horse (called "bad-weather-today".

WOW!!!! Just great picture, Urunghai! Thank you!

Yes, here also the St Nicholas and Santa Claus from 24th December is not the same person (only similar).
The one from 6th December we call just St Nicholaus,
the another from 24th Dec. we call "Gwiazdor" (Guy of Christ Star), "Dziadek Mróz" (Grandfather of freezing)
or sometimes "św. Mikołaj" (Santa Claus)...

But, they wear very simliar clothes and etymologically are connected I guess.

And I believe that the celebration of the 6th December came directly from the Church
and it is connected with a death of real St. Nicholas,
but the Polish tradition of giving presents into boots in this day came just from GERMANY!!!

Same tradition about St Nicholas in Romania. I think Eastern Europe has similar celebrations.
I did not clean my boots (they must be clean, otherwise you don't get anything), so I didn't get anything - hehe.
