Although these products
can in principle be prepared by enantioselective
Diels–Alder reactions of furan and acrylate derivatives,
the low reactivity of furan, poor conversions and the
occurrence of side reactions have made this approach
problematic. In fact, only a few examples of catalytic
asymmetric Diels–Alder reactions of furans and acrylate
derivatives have been reported.
