hehe! Too late! I saw BudaBen was on it when I posted above! I couldn't put it in stand-by because of that. Then Andreea has already set a poll, so it will be "au bénéfice du doute"!

Hehe, tu me poses une colle, là Burduf!

Franck, I think 13 is the best and correct way to translate, 3rd wouldn't make much sense, since the article talks about Bac and 16 year-old students. Just my opinion.

Scoăla Romăna : clasei a treisprezecea
Scoala Franceză : clasei al treilea?

Wait a sec, if there is a profesion school, those have a system of three years and then we could say the "third class", but, in this case, can be confusing, as MÃ¥ddie shows. Besides somewhere there is mentioned the school-leaving exam (bacalaureat), exam that only the students that finnish high-school are allowed to sustain. In the old system (of which product I am) there were two different learning classes: day school and evening school. The second one was for the students that were working and that was one year longer than the usual high-school, meaning 13 classes. From here the translation.

Hope it makes a little bit more light and I'm sorry for mixing up in the discussion if there was no need of explanation.

Ar fi mai bine daca as spune atunci, in anul al treilea de scoala profesionala?

Mai fetelor, in Romania scoala profesionala cati ani dureaza? Nu stiu cum sa fac, parca as pune inapoi clasa a 13-a!

I agree with Burduf on the article from "La croix", it is clearly said in French "classe de troisième", and not "classe de troisième année".

French Scholastic planning before university :

Primary school/Primaire

-At 6 years old : CP (cours préparatoire)
-At 7 : CE1 (cours élémentaire 1ère année)
-At 8 : CE2 (cours élémentaire 2ème année)
-At 9 : CM1 (cours moyen 1ère année)
-At 10 : CM2 (cours moyen 2ème année)

Secondary school 1st part/Secondaire 1er cycle (Collège)

At 11 years old : Classe de 6ème (sixième)
At 12 : Classe de 5ème (cinquième)
At 13 : Classe de 4ème (quatrième)
At 14 : Classe de 3ème (troisième)

-Exam : Brevet des collèges

Secondary school 2nd part/Secondaire 2ème cycle (Lycée)

At 15 : Classe de seconde
At 16 : Classe de première
At 17 : Classe de terminale

-Exam : Baccalauréat

Actually it was the way it worked some years ago, but I don't think it changed a lot since...

Merci BudaBen!

Thanks Maddie for your help with my Romanian and Burduf, for the notification.

Andreea (s) I think the problem is solved and that Burduf's vote turned into a positive one as BudaBen edited the way he wanted (and he was right having notified). I assume it is about this "classe de troisième" in the classical cursus (not the professional one, because in French it reads different when it is about a professional cursus,we say eg "3ème année de BEP"
