I´m sorry but I had never even heard of this alphabet, so I'm afraid I won't be of much help here...

Elder Futhark are old runes, I don't find any keyboard with them, but you can go to this page and write 'Jeg er skygge' in the box and push translate.. and you will have your runic translation.

Anita

Anyway this request should be removed as we don't rewrite texts from one script to another...

Well, I don' know the "runes". I agree wit Bamsa, it should be rejected. Actually, it's a transliteration from Danish to Danish. Exactly, the same thing if someone asks for Latin into cyrillic. Lilian, please, can you help me out here, please, as usual.

Sorry to interrupt, but I don't get it. Why remove this request?? I think we have accepted requests to Dansk tunga (Old Norse) before. I don’t think it can be considered as a translation from Danish --> Danish. The old Futhark was according to god (Wikipedia) used by a large group of people living in Northern Europe. The Danish Futhark (16 characters) developed much later from the younger Futhark. If it's about the script, Windows have a free keyboard for Elder Futhark.

Ernst, that link is super!! … and when checking its common transliteration, it seems correct. Anyway, I think the biggest problem is to actually find a member who masters to write in runes.

"according to God (Wikipedia)"

Great humour

(and I do agree with you that it should not be considered a Danish to Danish request)

Okay I overlooked "Dansk tunge" which in my opinion is a strange name for Old Norse.

You see Pia, when asking for a translation into Old Norse, they rename it "Other Languages" and as you know, no one has "Other Languages" in the profile as a language they know. I once asked if we could accept Old Norse as a language here, but no.

If someone ask for a translation into Old Norse and even asks for Futhark, that person will be disappointed because of the waiting. Better remove it right away....

But Ernst... sometimes when a request is asked into “Other language” it IS translated and also accepted, thanks to ‘research’ from members/experts and also thanks to the poll. Agree that it will probably take a long time for this one, but IMO it’s up to the requester to decide if s/he will accept the long wait.

Anyway, the requester here has got a translation (thanks to you) even if not approved.

I remember I saw you asked JP to add Old Norse. I think Porfyhr also asked about the Sami language which is pretty much in use today. I guess we can’t add all languages in the world.

About your doubt (Dansk tunge / Old Norse)… I guess one should not trust god always, but you can find it on other sites too if you search.

So you changed your mind, Ernst.

Not of my business, but why do you changed the requesters wish to have it in Elder Futhark

I didn't change the requesters wish to have it in Elder Futhark, if you read under the request it is still written there. I just changed the requested language from Elder Futhark to Old Norse as Elder Futhark isn't a language When Casper add the Futhark script we will accept it...

Sure, the language is ON!

BUT he wanted to have it written in the Runic alphabet, not in latin characters as it is now. I had a look at the translation and according to that, the Futhark text will only be displayed as a note. Never mind...

PS. If you check Wikipedia & other sites on the net, the language spoken during the time when Elder Futhark was in use was not Old Norse. Requested language would probably be Proto-Norse.

Well Pia, I don't think we should do more. Requested language is set to be Old Norse by the requester, as you said "Dansk Tunge = Old Norse" remember? It is not our concern if it was used or not at the same time as Elder Futhark. If it is possible to add the Futhark script, it would be fine, if not the requester can use the link I gave. So one way or another the requester WILL have his translation with the Futhark script.

But, the requester never gave Old Norse as a target language Ernst, that is edited later by you, remember?

Yes, according to webb sites on the net "Dansk Tunge" = "Old Norse". What puzzle me is the requester want to have the translation done in the 24-characters Futhark (Time period 2nd to 8th centuries) And its said Old Norse was spoken much later, appr. from the 8th century---> the end of the Viking age.

Sorry if I'm a nerd... I'll shut up from now on. You are right, the requester will have his translation.

You are right, I wrote Old Norse. It was because of the text:
"other language requested: Elder Futhark"
which isn't correct.

Anyway the requester wrote "Dansk Tunge" and according to what you found on the net, I corrected it to Old Norse...

The requester asked for "Dansk tunge" a language spoken from the year 500 to 800.

We don't have any proof that it is about Proto Norse since Proto Norse is a bit older.

It is clear (when searcing the net) that "Dansk Tunge" is Old Norse, so let us not disappoint the requester.

I don't agree, the requester asked to have his text translated to 24-characters, Futhark (not into Latin letters) And as you know, those runes existed long before Old Norse was in use. Anyway, you decide!
