The true need of fast translations... Expert need and so on...

As I find many translations way out of time I can't dwell with the fact that many translations are done way out of time, or not done at all. I must therefore ask for some kind of system to reserve fast translations to be done within some kind of time measuring or at least a relevant time period for translation.

If translations aren't done within the approximated period of time then I think there should be a reevaluation of the expert before the last final day... i.e. the experts MUST check their translations regularly, otherwise they are not experts. That means that experts that do not take their call seriously will be abandoned.

It is a pity that the experts in different languages do not take their call seriously. I think cucumis is a fantastic idea in order to spread languages all over the world... BUT being an expert it is a serious task and reliable to all members. Shouldn't it be promoted in any way to enhance the translations, the accurate promotion to experts doesn't appear to be enough at the moment. Could it be done better in order to enhance translations?

Let us all discuss how to deal with the "out of time translations" and "how to enhance the time elapse from origin to goal in translations"... and "should we find another system to promote our experts in order to achieve faster approval of translations"?

The reason why I wrote is a more general aim and not in order to become an expert.

I do agree with you, that the programming is too stereotyped and that a change would be most accurate. What could be done? Should a new layout or design of the site improve the translations? Could the translations be done faster with some kind of earning interest?

To do the translations more quickly, we need to be directed to pointed translations as soon as we reach here, in stead of openning more than three webpages before getting this function.

And more, every day, there can be hundreds of translations done, or hundreds of discussions, but the webpage shows too narrow to allow more than 20 posts shown together, we must scroll and turn to new pages.

Some good programmers suggest that, this site is too personal, it needs commercialization.

And in my opinion, it has been far better than most of sites I know, but I have to desire more, since I love here.

While, on the contrary, the simplicity of this site has won great respects.

But simplicity should not conflict with fuctionality.

Don't forget the experts are only volunteers people. They are doing a great work but only when they are available. It's hard to find available and good experts. If we have only one expert for a language (like it is for many languages), and if this expert goes on hollidays for example, we can't evaluate the translations. For many languages, there is no expert.

Each time we see a possible expert we ask to him/here to become one. But as I told you there are very few candidates.

I am about to go on vacation myself, so won't be "experting" the English targets for a while. But I have been thinking about this and I have a few small suggestions.

First, for a translation with a low rating give the translator only a fraction of full points. Eg if the rating is 5 give 50%, if 6 give 60%, etc. This is the cost to them of learning on the job.

Second, give experts far more points for editing, rating, and accepting/rejecting translations. For editing, pay a percentage of the point value of the translation, or a percentage based on the rating.

Example: if a translation worth 100 points is edited then accepted with a rating of 7, give the translator 70 points and give the editor(s) 30 points. A longer text takes more work to edit.

A longer text also takes more work to rate and A/R, but not in a simple proportion to its length. It has been my experience that the translations I rate 10 take me little time to deal with.

A translation that has been edited probably should not be rejected, and conversely a rejected translation probably should not have been edited, so I have no suggestions at this time re how to distribute points for peer review of rejected translations except that the translator should get no points.

My "expert" job takes so much time that I have no time anymore to translate. I can understand why some members decline to be promoted to experts.

If I translate a few more things into Brazilian Portuguese I guess I could be an expert of this language as I have free time and I spend many hours in the site Although I know you already got experts for Br Portuguese..

Usually, the other experts for a given language are the right people to tell whether they need help or not. I think both Casper and Thatha would be glad to know there's an available helping hand when it would be needful. And it seems that availability is a strong quality of yours!
