It would be really nice to know what books do you like to read and if you have read something interesting, feel free to recommend it here! : |

| Right now, I'm reading "Narziß und Goldmund" (in English: "Narcissus and Goldmund" by Hermann Hesse which is quite famous and a "Must read" (at least in the German-speaking region).
I like it, because it's also a bit philosophic and adventurous.
For people who really like adventurous books, I can only recommend "The Physician" by Noah Gordon. It's also very interesting, because you get to know the beginnings of medicine. |

| I try to read everything Stephen King, somebody once recommended me reading the Dark Tower series, and they are sooo awesome.
I think all 7 parts of it have been translated into your own language (Donkere Toren, Torre Oscura, ...)
although, as always, the originals are far better.
Apart from King ... what I have to read for school
Hmmmm, I liked "The Chosen". Gives some nice information about Chassidic Jews and their religion. |

piasNumber of messages: 8114 | The last Book I read was "Tuesdays with Morrie", by Mitch Albom. (from 97) I found a resume for it at Wikipedia:
"It tells the true story of Morrie Schwartz and his relationship with his student, Mitch Albom. Both the film and the book chronicle the lessons about life that Mitch learns from his professor, who is dying from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease."
I liked it "so-so", my expectation was bigger when I heard about it. |

CisaNumber of messages: 765 | I´ve just finished The Fifth Child, by Nobel Prize winning author Doris Lessing. It was really a ´food-for-thought-book´. It´s about a happy couple whose fifth child is born retarded. He´s violent and spoils the life of everybody. However, the mother does not give up and she doesn´t even know he´s an autist, since he´s so deformed she believes she´s a gnome or something. in Wikipedia, it´s described as a gothix story similar to Frankenstein: interesting point, and I feel somewhere it may be true. Anyway, it´s not a so-called ´pleasant read´, although worth reading and makes you think a LOT.
Memoirs of a Geisha are nice, although a little bit ´Romantic-Westerner´. Have you seen the movie? I liked it a lot, it has some really nice music and the actresses do a great job! |

| Yes,I have. The movie's story is a bit different but they both are very nice. But Sayuri isn't Japanese. She was a Chinese actress called Zhang Ziyi |

CisaNumber of messages: 765 | Yep, I know! Gong Li (Hatsumomo) is a HK actress while Michelle Yeoh´s Malaysian. Interestingly, no Japanese actresses in a Geisha-movie (!!). But at least the President was Japanese, Ken Watanabe. |

| Gong Li I supposed her to be about 25 at first sight but according to the wikipedia she's 40 |

| Memoirs of a Geisha, nice!
I like the movie too!
Mmm... Books I like? Let's go:
Some months ago I was reading all books from the "most read"... I really liked Khaled HOsseini's The kite hunter, the movie is unbelievably faithful to the book. Then I got A thousand splendid suns as birthday gift, and I really loved it!
I reeeeally want to read The book thief from Markus Zusak (?)... Anyone already read it?
I really like E.Poe, Jane Austen. I tried to read Dostoyévski... 3/4 from Crime and punishment until now, he's a machine, I cried in the part that they kill the horse.
Goethe's Werther... Super!
Right now I'm reading Paulo Coelho's collection, that my dad gave me. Aawn... I'm tired. Hehe.
King Lear... The gold bug... Quite a long list.
I started to read brazilian literature last year and I'm enjoying it. José de Alencar is one of my favorites, and he was born in the same neighborhood I live, cool.
I can't forget Patativa do Assaré and his awesome tales... Clarice Lispector... and so on.
Ana Terra, O Guarani, Dias e Dias, Aves de Arribação.
Bye bye... |

| Hey Uru, I want to read Stephen too someday... |
| 7 May 2008 19:00 |
| Wow, you really read Goethe? We've just done the Weimarer Klassik in our German lessons and I have to say, that I honestly need some distance from Goethe's literature now... But if you like him, you could try "Faust" - it's definitely one of the most famous German pieces ever! |

kfetoNumber of messages: 953 | Henry Miller's both tropics i liked. plan on reading the plexus trilogy next.
Khalil Gibran's The Prophet, to me is probably the best novel ever. |
| 8 May 2008 03:16 |
| Faust? Can this be about Goncin? I should put it in my list...
It's getting bigger and bigger.
I liked Werther. In fact I really like to read about things that are different for me, you know? I liked Khaled's books because they talk about a different culture, Afghanistan. I heard about Werther in my literature class, and I loved the way it's written. the letters made me think I was their recipient, really good, I like interactions, like when you are reading a book and the end is nothing like you thought it could be, I can be furious, but I apreciate it so much because of that... It's really smart, I hope I can do that too in the future.
Nice new avatar kfeto.

| What do you mean? Faust being about Goncin??
I can't imagine how Goethe sounds like in English (or whatever (foreign) language). He was also a master of measures (like iambs), but I don't think you can translate his poems properly. I guess you have to know German in order to understand his genius completely |

| Hello!
I liked "The God of Small Things" by Arundathi Roy a lot when I read it. Russian Mikhail Bulgakov and Ursula LeGuin are two other author, whose books I really really like! I'm just too bad at telling in an interesting way about books I have read (and as to movies nobody use to understand anything... when I try to tell them)... so I had better not try... But Le Guin writes science fiction and fantasy. Bulgakov has written different kinds of novels and short stories. |

| Yes, Fausto. |

CisaNumber of messages: 765 | I´ve also read Werther. I accomplish its merits, but it was a little bit too sentimental to me....
Paulo Coelho was OK, I have read some of his books. Alchimist was nice, but the one I liked the most was Veronica decides to die- that twist in the end is genial! I´ve also read Zahir, but I think that was a little bit ´too much´, I didn´t really enjoy it.
Now I´m reading a ´Maths crime story´ :P, The Oxford Murders by Guillermo MartÃnez. Haven´t finished it yet, but I feel that will happen really soon... |
