| Lots of people believe it is bad luck.. I suppose the same people that are superstitious of black cats crossing their paths, of walking under a ladder, spilling salt, and stepping on cracks.. hehe. I think the thriller movies Friday The 13th didn't help that along. :P I do not. But it is fun to point it out (that it is Friday the 13th) and to try to spook one another. Just a fun thing. Sometimes my birthday lands on a Friday the 13th. |

| In Romania we have "three evil hours" on ... Tuesday. If it is also 13-th, than is really bad!! |

I agree with Iepurica. Sometimes, on Tuesdays, I have not just 3 evil hours, the bad luck lasts the entire day...
But it hasn't happend for a long time and maybe it won't happen again.
But some of my Tuesdays were looong and annoying.

gamineNumber of messages: 4611 | Hello Pia. I agree with mavis. I, me, myself(kicking) think it's just superstition. But can't it come from religion? Here in France most people are catholics, and on Fridays (not only Fridays 13th) are not allowed to eat meat, but have to eat fish. Just wondering.!! |

piasNumber of messages: 8113 | Aha ...I didn't know that about catholics! I guess that you learn something new everyday here. SURE ... it can have with religion to do, Look here! |

gigi1Number of messages: 116 | In Greece it's not Friday the 13th but Tuesday the 13th. I don't know if it's a religious matter, but I don't take it much seriously (if anythign bad is to happen,it will no matter what the day is). |

| In Greece gigi1 we have Tuesday as unlucky day, because on Tuesday,29 may 1453,Constantinople fell. Some say that it was 13:00h when the Ottomans rushed in...
Others say that Tuesday is unlucky because it's the day that Digenis Akritas was killed!
Nice topic,pias! CC: pias |

| Oh, Pia, sorry, now I saw what you've asked. Is a matter of speking, we call them "three evil hours" because those are three hours of the entire day when bad things can happen. Like they are jinxed or something like that.
I believe it is common with what Mideia said about Greece. Both the nations are orthodox, I suppose the superstition has a common ground.
What I find also amusing: do you know that some airplanes don't have the number 13 (for the seats)? I don't believe in 13 and bad luck, my parent's apartment has number 13, I lived there for 26 years and I did not have more bad luck than the average people. |

Nooo, I didn't knew that about airplanes, I wonder if SAS are that superstitious too, I'll check that next time I fly, whenever it will be. Are you too having a "nostalgic" look around in the "old" topics Andreea |

| Only now I found out this topic...
In Italy the most unlucky day is Friday the 17th!
Contrarily, 13 is considered a lucky number. I don't know why 17 and not 13: legend has it that 17, written in Roman numerals, is XVII; as you know, Ancient Romans used the letters of the alphabet to write numbers and, if you change the order of the letters in XVII, you get VIXI.
"Vixi" is actually a word in Latin: it means "I lived (therefore I'm dead)"!

| Wow! That's really interesting. I should have known this, Alex! Will rememeber the "VIXI" and will pass on the knowledge to my students, for sure. Thanks!!! |
