piasNumber of messages: 8114 | I read something about one week ago here, and thought that this is interesting. I'll add the English version here.
THANKS lenab for the translation!
The grammar of the brain worldwide
The human brain sorts what happens in the same order disregarding the native language. This completely contradicts earlier researches which have shown that the language directs the way we think.
The human brain sorts occurrences in the same order no matter what part of the earth we come from, or rather, no matter what language we speak.
It is American researchers who have concluded this by having 40 people as subjects to the experiment, who were speaking 4 different languages describing different courses of events - either by talking or by gesticulating.
When they answered orally, as expected, they all followed the grammar of their native language, but when they were gesticulating they all fell into the same grammatical pattern: subject, object, verb, as for example: person radio listens.
This seems to be the most logical order for our brain to describe what happens and the results challenge the existing thought that the language we speak directs the way we think.

| Wow... wow.
This is awesome! Sounds like you are calling me, with this title.
Thanks for the text Piasinha, you know I love that, don't you?
Beijos. |

| Wow. I remember this one. It's on my favorites' list here. |

piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Aha! It was Casper who put this one as a favorite, I thought that maybe it was lenab who translated it ...
Yes ...I know that you are a bit nuts about brains Thata We can have this topic as a "brain-thread" you know. Look here haha, and here are many, many more things to look at. And here also.

| It's one of my favourite issues, too.
I like to study the human behaviour at all.
I was a big fan of a book called Ethology when I was a kid. |
| 16 July 2008 12:41 |
| It was nice to know that.
I want to study it someday. Ethology is a great subject. |

piasNumber of messages: 8114 | More "brain-stuff" ...I think that this "test" is an old one, but I copy/paste it here anyway.
At the end of this, you are asked a question. Answer it immediately. Don't
stop and think about it. Just say the first thing that pops into your mind.
Amazing test....just follow the instructions as quickly as possible.
Do not go to the next calculation before you have finished the previous
one. You do not need to write or remember the answers, just do it using
your mind. You'll be surprised.

| Hehe, I was thinking about a blue hammer. Close enough!!! |

I thought that here on cucumis people shall think about a blue monkeywrencher. |

| Well, I thought about red, here in coockooland I cannot think of something else but a monkey-wrench hehe, a red M-Wrench. |

| Just done the test... I did think of a red hammer!
Wow, I've got an ordinary mind |

| Clockwise. The description matches quite well my traits... Maybe it's just the power of suggestion |

piasNumber of messages: 8114 | I could see both 'turns' first... after a while only the 'right turn'
Um... I think if they had presented it different, e.g. no explanation/ answer until you have done the 'test', it might be more faithful to reality. No answer until the test is done means we can not cheat, try to see something because we are supposed to see that due to our 'skills' in life.
Hope you understand what I try to say Alex!!! =)
|
| 13 November 2011 16:21 |
| Yes I do, anyway I don't think our brain works so easily that just one or two tests can 'decode' it |
| 13 November 2011 16:31 |
| I unfortunately couldn't change the anticlock direction with my brain, and I did not see red, but a blue hammer just like Maddie once did...
Interesting tests anyway, dear Pia. |
| 13 November 2011 16:46 |
piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Wonder what that means Aneta!!
I use a very simple brain ALEX -so one test is maybe enough to decode it ;-) |
| 13 November 2011 16:51 |
| I suspect it means I'm not as flexible as others... and/or I am less susceptible to being manipulated. |
