Hello: Hei, Moi, terve (the last is more formal)
goodbye: heido, hei hei, näkemiin
good morning: hyvää huomenta
good evening: hyvää iltaa
m I have trouble with the grammar and spelling still, but I'll check my responses here for correctness. | | 13 October 2008 17:03 | | kiitos ![](../images/emo/smile.png) but i know this greetings ![](../images/emo/smile.png) . but i havent heard "hyvaa iltaa" before. can i use "hyvaa yöta"?? | | 13 October 2008 19:14 | |
Great. It's hyvää iltaa, the ä is higher pitched than the low pitched a. You can say hyvää porkanaa, which means good carrot. If the sense used in the sentence is of an indefinite quantity then the partitive form with -a/ä at the end is used, but finnish grammar is quite complex. I think you can say good + pretty much anything, like in english. |
