Hello!

As some of you should know, I'm finishing my Law course (it ends on December). Every alumnus, in order to become a bachelor, ought to deliver a monograph, and mine is about "equity", which can be defined as "justice, impartiality and fairness". Please note that in the US and the UK this word has another, more specific meaning, which I'm NOT interested in.

I'm researching the etymology of that word and I need to get as many translations as possible of it, to find out how widespread is the idea "equity" encases.

That's what I've got for now:

Latin: æquitas
Portuguese: eqüidade
Spanish: equidad
Catalan: equitat
French: équité
Italian: equità
Romanian: echitate
German: Billigkeit
Ancient Greek: επιείκεια

Please correct me, if there's something wrong.

As we don't accept single or isolated words (rule #4), I'm asking for a special community favour on this forum for helping me to get these translations.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, folks!

Francky, I've lost that acute accent when I've copied and pasted from my work and deleted it by chance. Of course, when I retyped that "e", my absent mind has forgot the acute...

Thank you, guys, but:

@Rodrigues: "Billigkeit" is the correct technical term in German (see here), as used by Emmanuel Kant.

@Urunghai: I've forgot to put in my first post, but the correct term in Ancient Greek is επιείκεια, as used by Aristotle (in 'Nicomachean Ethics').

Meh, I'm pretty sure Plato used δικαιοσύνη!

Yep, but δικαιοσύνη has more to do with the concept of "justice" than "equity".
