The word "Saudades"
I have looked as tome interesting ideas about the word "saudades". Comments I have read that it is not a verb, it's not first person. What have you.

Version 1: To miss
Version 2: To long for
While "saudades" is not a verb, you may notice that the meaning is the same as "nostalgia".
If you are a Greek anthropist:
The word is made up of two Greek roots (νόστος nostos "returning home", and άλγος algos "pain"
I have always understood, in order to understand a language, you must understand your own native language first. A poor English speaker will never fully understand his own language, much less than understand another language from a different culture and past.
Side note: If you read a lot of "American" literiture, you will without a doubt see much similarity in the words of "the early Englishmans" language that directly translates into almost any foreigh language. One thing about English, is that it changes rapidly (American [USA] English). English is from what country? There you go! American literature originated from whom? Not from anybody from the USA. Therein lies the problem in translation. USA English is not Original English. Viola! Get it?
