Hi everyone,

Una Smith started an earlier thread asking everyone how they found out about Cucumis.

I'd like to ask a follow-up question to that: what is it that keeps you coming back? What makes Cucumis so interesting to you?

I'm writing an article about online translation, and would like to include Cucumis, but I'm having trouble explaining it (harder than you might think)... hoping the answers to this question will help

Thanks!

Chris

The team of cucumis, then the whole idea of the project.
Most of us come back not to ask the translation, but to make it.
We are doing smth good, we help people to understand each other and also we have fun here.

I found cucumis while I was searching for a web-site where I can get some theoretical information about translation field (because I was going to attend an interview for my master's program). But this site is not for the theoretical information about translation but for the practice of a foreign language, which is a wonderful chance for a non-native speaker -like me. This was the first reason which made me stick to cucumis. But not the main one! As time went on, cucumis let me create great friendships with the other members. Believe me, Shioyama, I'm not talking about ephemeral friendships: there are some members whom I love so much that I can call them "sister" without feeling any doubt. I can even admit that during the times when I don't have so much time to log in and deal with the translations, I visit the site just to hear from my friends again.

In short, for me, cucumis is a tool which enables me to improve my language skills and to make new and long-lasting friendships, which make it hard to leave cucumis.

Hugs, my dear friend.

I think one word could explain something. When we talk together about most of us say "OUR" .
Feeling like a big and great family, having in common the same passion: languages and exchanges with people from different countries and where, we all together help each other to do the best translation possible. And the words "all together" have a special meaning for me and this meaning I find it here on OUR cucumis.

Thanks guys for your great answers, especially Handyy! It's interesting that you originally came here for theoretical information about translation and were sucked in Cucumis does indeed feel like a big family, speaking across many languages.
