BEFANA NON VIENE?

I found this note from a friend's msn.
I was told it is about a story in Italy, a festival. Isn't it?

Befana is an old woman, a kind of fairy. On the 6th of January (not sure about the date), at night she comes to children and brings them sweets (if they behaved well all year) or pieces of coal (if they were naughty). In fact this coal is just burnt sugar.
