american spelling under british flag

I wonder why there are two different flags for Portuguese and Brasilian Portuguese, while for English there is only the Union Jack. At the same time, the spelling in the website is only American, i. e. "favorites" instead of "favourites".
Is it because there many Brazilian users and no, or few, British users?

At the very first stages of cucumis, brazilian people has asked for a distinct flag.
I guess you're right about british users. Actually, there are not many english native speakers on cucumis so users don't care for dsitinctions between american and british english. I guess one day, it will be necessary to introduce an american english flag.

This is an interesting thread for me as a native speaker, but an American living in Canada, and teaching people how to teach English as a Second Language.

Actually, there aren't that many differences between North American (Canadian & U.S.) English and British English. In the time I've been translating and validating on Cucumis, it's only come up for me twice, and each time I put the alternative in the comments (I think). I think one time I wrote "blokes" (British) as an alternative for "guys" (North American).

I didn't even know that "guys" was American. I've always heard it being said by British peopole, as a commomly used word. I think that it may be now more common than "blokes". It would be interesting to have the opinion of a British native, but there is none.
On this subject, what could we do to attract British, American, Australian, etc. towards this site?
I know, they don't need to learn other languages, since they speak the "global" language, but there should be, however, students of foreign languages, natives of foreign origin, etc.
Has anybody got an idea?

Well ... I could ask friends of mine who are polyglots - I do actually know a few. But I was kind of enjoying my special status ...

Actually, I did invite two people who are native speakers of English and became active on the site for a while - Car0le and Radica. But I can put the word out to others, too.
