Source Language and Target Language

Hi,

I signed up with cucumis this evening. When I tried to do a translation, I got a message saying I could only translate towards my mother tongue.

I was hoping to do exactly this, as my mother tongue is English, but I think that my email address has thrown things "off key" as it is a .fr (dot fr). I've been living in France for 22 years, but I'd feel much more comfortable translating into English.

I don't know how to change the settings, can someone help?

Actually, for young members (regsitered less than 3 days ago) many things are locked because we had in teh past too many jokers/spammers.
Among these :
- You can't send personnal messages
- You can only transalte into the main language you entered in your profile.
- You can't change your main language.

In 3 days (2 now) you will be able to edit your native langauge from your profil (I've done it for you, now you can translate into english). You will be able to translate in every language despite it's advised you transalte in your native one. And you can send private messages.

Thanks so much for "tweaking" my settings so as I could get started.

I would have thought that native english speakers were the rule rather than the exception.

I hope my translation is up to standard. I "cheated" and rejoined under another avatar, with another email address.

I'm telling you this in case you think its Christmas today and you got two native english speakers in the same day.

This time I chose english from the outset, and under the name of Ruth, I have translated two small articles.

I will try and only use Tantine in the future.

Hi, Tantine, I can't move the translations you did with Rush to your main account. thanks for telling me. To make things more clear, I had to deactivate your second account but the translations you did with Rush are still valid.

Don't worry about adding the Ruth translations to Tantine's account (my main account), they were more for "having a try" than anything else.

I've been in France since '85. For the last 15 years or so I have regularly done freelance work for the CNRS, the UNESCO (including simultaneous translation), the Regional council, here in Corsica.

So I speak probably more than "fluent" french but my written French still needs my husband, or 16 yr old daughter, to check up on my syntax, "accords" and accent fantasia.

Here on cucumis I'd like to have a try at translating into French. To be honest, I'm not sure that my French would be worse than that of some of the texts I translated into english for cucumis yesterday!!
