Unclear source texts

What are we to do when the source text has many errors? Do we translate the errors so that we have a more literal translation, or do we tweak it so it makes more sense?

For example, translating (I'm just making this one up), "I seed you and talked at you." Would the translation read (in another language, of course), "I saw you and talked to you?"

I hope this makes sense. It's sort of difficult to describe what I mean without using two languages and without using a real example.

Usually, this kind of request is submitted by somebody who has received an email or a chat message that s/he doesn't understand. The request is, or should be "meaning only".
Actually, if nothing is written in the comments of the request, you should not translate the mistakes of the original text and change the text in something less awkward. Just as you suggested in your example.
