| Yes, that means that your translations weren't good enough, so they've rejected them..
Well, if you want to study German, I could.. but it's not my most fluent language!

| what is 'Datief'?
is 'guten Abend' different from 'gut(en) Abend'?
no, it's not different: you just cannot say 'gut Abend'
it's Guten abend, because it's an exception in German
it would be better if I thought you dutch
and I was wrong, it's not Datiev but Akkusatiev
Cheers,

| Hi! i need to read the whole text. but if it is in the context "press relizov" then the word "relizov" means "releases" and it is in Genitive case, plural. But I have to see the text. Send me a part of it. |

| simple past:
I was = Ik was
you were = jij was
he/she/it was = hij/zij/het was
we were = wij waren
you were = jullie waren of U was
they were = zij waren
I had = Ik had
You had = jij had
he/she/it had = hij/zij/het had
we had = wij hadden
you had = jullie hadden of U had
they had = zij hadden

| like this:
don't you know = weet jij niet?
it's same..
it's a question
jij weet niet, can you also say, but that it would be no question
so you change..
weet jij or again, 'je' niet
we don't got some word for 'do' or 'don't' to make it a question..
we just change subject and verb..
in some questions you don't have to change place of verbs & subject, you can just change your tone, so they know if you want to ask a question..

| Hi smy,
I read the context here, and I suppose the meaning of
...he was undemonstrative at the best,...
is
perhaps we should say he didn't show his emotions easily (which is a nice way to say, he seemed a little cold)
and
...his relationships were founded in a similar catholicity of good nature.
seems to mean
...he had friends (based not on feelings of deep friendship but rather, only) based on his universal acceptance for human beings.
But literature is always more difficult! |

| I think
he was undemonstrative at the best
means
I suppose most of the time he seemed a little cold, and "undemonstrative" was about as warm as he got.
and
a similar ... good nature
means
a good nature which was in accord with all his other personality characteristics described above. |
