If you know one language, you are only one person,
but if you know two language you are two people...

Selam merdogan

Bilmiyorum, bence "three people-->(big)Human"a ne dersin? Yada buna benzer.
Saygılarımla

Bence de Fikomix daha doÄŸru .

I agree with Fiko. I think it wouldn't be correct to translate "üç dil bilen insandır" as "A person who knows three languages is three people", because in the original it is not used "three people", but just "human/person" (A person who knows three languages is a Human/(real) Human).

I don't agree with you.
to be a real human there are other
characteristics.

Hi guys, I'd be glad if you posted the comments in English, OK?

@ kendin_ol_19,

This is a bit weird.
What does it mean exactly? Is it a Turkish saying/proverb?
I'm not sure if it will keep the meaning in other languages.

Translation into French is different, yet awkward as well...

(If a man speaks one language, then two men speak two languages, these are altogether three languages they speak"...

There's a correct translation in French here :

A person who knows a language is one person.
A person who knows two languages is two people.
A person who knows three languages is all humanity.

Then it's satisfying. Sorry for the latter mistake Francky.

Thanks a lot Iserb!

Lilian, have a look to the recently validated French version, as this is the right one, we checked and this proverb is quoted at a link I provided. Thus an edit according to the French version would be fine on that one above!

‘'A person who knows a language is one person, A person who knows two languages (are) two people, a person who knows three languages (are) three people…’’ I agree with merdogan. I made a little mistake in translation request. Must be ''Bir dil bilen bir insan, iki dil bilen iki insan, üç dil bilen üç insandır...''

This sentence is very value. It isn't a Turkish saying/proverb. The original sentence coming from Arabic. The Prophet Muhammad's Saying. I'm etymologizing.

If you don't mind, maybe it could be in this less literal way:

The person, who speaks one language, is worth one person,
The person, who speaks two languages, is worth two people etc.

Can I rewrite my Translation Request? I have a little mistake.
‘’Bir dil bilen bir insan, iki dil bilen iki insan, üç dil bilen üç insandır.’’
