| The event that I will never forget... | | Target language: English
The event that I will never forget is the war in 1999. Although I was a child, I remember many moments from that period. Taking away freedom and childhood with no concern is the worst thing that could happen. The everyday sound of sirens and airplanes was the real horror to me. Besides the material damage, that war took many innocent lives, too. Some children lost their families and homes. But despite of that, we have managed to forget the fear by socializing and with humour, at least until the next sound of sirens. |

There are some lines I would like to make more clear, so since I can't read Serbian I'm setting a poll to get some help from the Serbian speakers. OK? | | | 23 April 2008 22:24 | | | | | | 23 April 2008 23:03 | | | OK! | | | 24 April 2008 22:16 | | StaneNumber of messages: 176 | I have a problem with "It is the worst thing to take away the freedom and play from a child without any fear". I serbian text it is the "play" that is without fear or fearless, not the child. I admit that the serbian sentence is confusing. "Fearless play" or "Igru bez straha" on serbian, i don't think that we say it ever like that. Right to play without any fear, that would be ok. "Oduzeti detetu slobodu i pravo da se igra bez ikakvog straha".
So, finally, it seems that english translation made this sentence much clearer in some whay.
"Oduzeti slobodu i igru detetu koje se nicega nije plasilo" or "koje se nicega ne boji".
I dont know, what do you think guys? | | | 27 April 2008 16:32 | | lakilNumber of messages: 249 | My suggestion to "oduzeti detetu slobodu i igru bez ikakvog straha je nesto najgore." would be as it follows:"To take away freedom and childhood is the worst thing one can do." The reason I chose the word "childhood." even though it is not indicated inthe original text, is because the paly in this context does refer to one's childhood. It's just my interpretation of the text.
Also the following sentence:"svakodnevno slusanje sirena i aviona za mene je bio pravi uzas." I would change to:". Listening to the sound of sirens and airplanes on daily basis was the real horror for me."
And there are some minor recommendations in this part:"Besides the material damage, the war has taken many innocent lives, too. Some children have left without their families and homes. But in spite of that we have managed to forget the fear by association and humour, at least till the next sound of sirens."
My recommendations are capitalized:"Besides the material damage, the war TOOK many innocent lives, too. Some children LOST their families and THEIR homes, but inspite of that, we managed to forget the fear by SOCIALIZING and HUMOR, at least UNtill the next sound OFF OF THE sirens."
