She found that children involved in music activities outside school showed greater interest in the music activities taking place in school than those involved in no such extracurricular activities. They also showed a high level of formality toward the music they heard at school (classical music) as opposed to performing and listening to music outside school (popular music) with which they were familiar and with which they could actually relate.
