Autonomy, Agency, individuality, and independence are used extensively and at times interchangeably in psychology while there is also debate regarding their importance for psychological well being, particularly in terms of their intersections with relatedness. This scholarship occurs within mainly a Euro-American cultural context that provides a social ideological background of individualism, shedding light on psychological thinking.
