He is the third child of David Boreanaz Sr. (whose professional name is Dave Roberts) and Patricia A. (nicknamed Patti). David has two sisters, Beth and Bo. Bo is married to Jonathan Slavin. He has a 6 year old niece, Caledonia, and a four year old nephew, Griffin. The family settled in Villanova, Philadelphia in 1978 when his father was hired as a weatherman for the television station WPVI, Channel 6. David received his education entirely in Philadelphia, never leaving the city except to try his luck in Hollywood. David went to Malvern Prep, a private Catholic high school for boys, and continued on to Ithaca, a university in New York State, where he specialized in Film Studies. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications in 1991, and after four years of study he left for Hollywood. In 2001, he received the Young Alumni Award from Ithaca. While he was in school, his primary interest was football, not his studies. He said himself that he was the class clown, all the while making people laugh. He also admits that his favorite classes were math and chemistry. When he left for Hollywood, he intended to try his luck working behind the cameras as a director. Unfortunately, an unknown 22 year old with no experience has almost no chance of getting trusted with a large budget. Despite his rough beginnings, he succeeded little by little to make his way into the industry while working for publicity. One of David’s characteristics is his determination. His father also confirms that this trait was evident even in his early childhood. It was this confidence in him that pushed David to try a career in Hollywood when he was 22 years old. Gaspare Pellegrini, David’s former football coach at Malvern said, “He already had the kind of determination to persevere where others would give up. He wasn’t the biggest or the fastest on the team, but he tried his hardest and he was a good player.” Another teacher said of him, “He had a strong presence, and he was pleasant and very decisive.” David himself recognizes that his decisive nature helped him deal with the disappointment that he felt when, during his senior year in college, he had to stop playing football because of a serious knee wound, “that taught me never to fall down.”

Bachelor of Arts (B.A., BA or A.B.) is an undergraduate bachelor's degree awarded for either a course or a program in the liberal arts or the sciences, or both. (from Wikipedia)

You can also have a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Medical Degree, etc. Shows the general field in which the degree is from.

The Communications degree is... the degree he recieved from the college. As in, he majored in Communications.

I hope this clarifies it.

Not really - I know how the education system works in the U.S. (I'm American). You get a Bachelor or Arts/Science/Education/Fine Arts, which is a degree, in something - was his a Bachelor of Arts in Communications? Or did he receive two degrees?

I googled his bio, and most of the sources simply say he received a degree in Communications, but they don't say what the degree was (Associates/Bachelors/Masters).

You're right - I'm sorry. It's a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. I assumed it's a Bachelors because it was a four year degree.

I'm really sorry.

I'm still confused. In French, it says "Il a obtenu un diplôme d'Arts avec un degré de diplôme de lettres," so it sounds like he received two "diplômes" - what is a "diplôme" exactly?

I've changed the translation to "Bachelor of Arts in Communications", but I'm still not sure that's what he earned. I guess it's not that important, though, so I'm going to validate the translation, which was very well done. I hope you'll do the other ones in this series if you have the time - they really need to be done by a native speaker of English.

And no need to apologize, dovienya, you didn't know I was American.
