¿Cómo fue a Barcelona? means "How did you (or did he/she) go to Barcelona?"

Well as the sentence I wrote earlier, which I would use, wasn't accepted. I was interested in hearing what you thought about one of the suggestions written as remark on my earlier translation.

How would you say: "How's Barcelona?" In Spanish.
(the question is for example said to you when you return from a short visit to the city of Barcelona by a person who wonders how it is in Barcelona).

If that's what is meant to be asked in Swedish, maybe you should try it the simplest way: "¿Cómo es Barcelona?" this also meaning how it is "in" Barcelona.

Thank you Guilon, I'll add "en" also as it is a question about how the situation 'in' Barcelona is/was.
Swedes tend to use different ways to pose questions regarding the past tense in spoken language. You could use "era" if you make a word-by-word translation. Hur = Como, var = era, en = i
but then it is like asking about the 18th century to a swede.

Pregunta: -Hur var det i X (nombre de lugar)? (How's X?)
Respuesta: -Det var bra.

El problema es "det", un sujeto impersonal inexistente en español, para mí se podría eliminar el locativo:

¿Qué tal estaba Barcelona?
¿Qué tal Barcelona?

O bien se podría traducir añadiendo un sujeto (o incluso un dativo):

¿Qué tal todo en Barcelona? ¿Cómo andan(estaban) las cosas en Barcelona?

¿Cómo/Qué tal te fue en Barcelona?

The phrase is obviously not so easy to translate.
¿Qué tal estaba Barcelona? = Hurudant var (det) i Barcelona? = "Asking for a description". It is not the way a swede would ask this kind of question.
"Hur var det i Barcelona?" is a phrase said showing a general, and polite interest, in how a visit/stay in Barcelona is/was.

"...a phrase said showing a general, and polite interest, in how a visit/stay in Barcelona is/was."

Then, these two sentences Pirulito suggested fit perfectly :

¿Qué tal Barcelona?
¿Qué tal todo en Barcelona?
