Remarks about the translation
En mycket trevligare variant av "jantelagen". :)

Title
Wimmins' Law
Translation
English

Translated by Mats Fondelius
Target language: English

Wimmins' Law

1. Thou shalt believe that you are someone.
2. Thou shalt believe that you are just as nice as anyone else, and others just as nice as you.
3. Thou shalt believe that you are as wise as others, sometimes wiser.
4. Thou shalt know that you are just as good as others. If you know that you are doing your best, you will be able to appreciate those that are better than you.
5. Sometimes thou knowest more than others.
6. Thou art not superior to others, but as unique as are all others.
7. Thou art disposed to doing many things.
8. Laugh unto yourself and your world - it will set you free.
9. Thou shalt believe that many care about you.
10. Thou shalt believe that you have much to teach to, and learn from, others.
11. WHY? Because you are someone. Someone that is needed.

Remarks about the translation
"Jänte" = Swedish slang plus dialect for woman...
However, I'm not translating it in the title since his is a positive version of the Swedish socalled "Jantelagen"...
Jäntelagen (= "The law of women" ~ The "better"
version of "Jantelagen".)
The Swedish letter ä instead of a makes ALL the difference in the meaning of this whole translation - not just the title!

Nummer åtta borde vara "Laugh at yourself..." inte "Do not laugh.."

Tantine!
I trust you 100% when it comes to proper English, your corrections/suggestions. And I also think that Mats has done a good work as a ground.

There is one thing that I agree with Auer about. I think that the 4th would rather be: "You shall know that you are just as good as others. If you know that you are doing your best you will learn to appreciate those who are better than you."

You asked about the 8th , and the last phrase "det gör dig fri." means that "it makes you free" ...you feel free in your heart if you can laugh a bit at your world.

Thanks a lot for your kindness.

Detta vil jag ändra på: "You shall know that you are just as good as others. If you know that you are doing your best you will be able to appreciate them more" till "You shall know that you are just as good as others. If you know that you are doing your best you will be able to appreciate those who are better even more". Och "Someone needed" till "Someone who is needed". :-)

2. You shall believe that you are just as nice as everyone else and others just as nice as you.
3. You shall believe that you are as wise as others, sometimes wiser.
4. You shall know that you are just as good as others. If you know that you are doing your best you will be able to appreciate them more.
5. Sometimes you know more than others.
6. You are not superior to others, but you are unique as all others.
7. You are disposed to do many things.
8. Laugh onto yourself and your world - it will set you free.
9. You shall believe that many cares about you.
10. You shall believe that you can teach others a whole lot and learn from them.
11. WHY? Because you are someone. Someone needed.

Hej Mats Fondelius

As you can see, I have been to a lot of trouble, first suggesting, then implementing an important number of corrections to your version.

Please understand that everyone on cucumis "does it for fun", which means we are all here on our spare time.

If you cannot spend the necessary time looking over your translations and editing them, may I suggest that you take on shorter and less complicated texts in order to avoid experts having to spend such an amount of time on a text you do not seem to particularly care about.

By the way, in a previous message here, you say you did not receive any notifications about the translation. In order to receive email notifications you should tick the "Notify me when a reply is posted" box, under the message field, in that way you can easily keep track of the different texts you translate

Tantine, this looks great to me!

But I'm not 100 sure if the last sense in the 4th is right.(?) Meaning is:"...If you know that you are doing your best, you will be able to appreciate those that are better than you"

Thanks all of you!

To Tantine - I understand your concern and fully respect it.
However, "You should not judge your fellowman unless you have walked a mile in their shoes"...

With this I respectfully want to point out that this week has been extraordinary for me, divorce, two court trials of outmost importance, a dying cousin and I say no more...

I have always fulfilled my obligations so far when it comes to the comittments on cucumis.
I also speak the truth honestly and sometimes blunt when needed.
That is what I did this time and I do not need any symphathy, just respect as you would like to be respected in a situation like mine.

May Love & Light be with you!

Mats

Hi Mats,

Dont worry, I wasn't judging you, I was just giving some advice .

Pias' text is a particularly long one, which is why I suggested you choose shorter ones when you don't have too much time. I didn't want to seem bossy or rude or anything, so awfully sorry if you felt offended.

I understand now, with such a busy week, that you had other things on your mind

I hope next time we "meet" on a translation you will be having a better time of things. It is unfortunate for you that all "came to a head" at once.

Tantine,sorry for "interfere", but ...
I have never found you rude to anyone!
I think that you are right about that IF we do a translation (short or long) we have to participate until it is finished, and if we are unable to, we better tell the expert about it. I very often find that "the Swedes" don’t reply when one asks them something ...and that is VERY annoying.

And it’s also true that we never know what the person behind the translation is going through at the moment, that’s the bad thing with this "Internet-thing". (Maybe we should have some sort of "mood-sign" next to the names) ...maybe not a good idea, but we better be careful with each other!

I’m sorry too Mats to hear that you going through hard times, hope that it gets better!

Thank you once again Tantine and Mats for the translation, I like it when it’s written in a kind of old style. (That "thou")

First, I want express my personal thanks to each and everyone "helping out" with this translation!

"Pias" - You make me smile..!
A "mood-sign" would have been good for me to have this week...

"Tantine" - Your heart is filled with love - always treasure it!

Do not have any worries about me(!) - I always have the "Universal Love" inside me.

Peace & Love!

Mats
