deinen neuen Tag beginnst,
und dass du zwar höchstwahrscheinlich nie
die Fernsehlotterie,
doch manchen neuen Freund gewinnst.

Remarks about the translation
:) I love this song.

Serenade
Translation
English

Translated by Grimoire
Target language: English

Today we just found out
That some few years ago
Was thought the time was right
Thus quickly you were born.
Since then you're in this world.
It's great you find it good,
Happy birthday to you!

We wish that people kind and gay
Would come, especially today
Especially close to you
We hope they'll even give you presents
We hope that they will think of you
Because today is your birthday.

We wish you that in this new year
Of your life, what was good - to stay
And things that irritate you, dear
At least don't get worse in any way.

We wish that every morning
Carefree and jolly
You'll start your day,
That you never win the lottery
(That's anyway so probable)
But that you'll win some friends.

We wish you in the summer - lots of sunshine
And endless snow in the winter would be fine,
And we also hope that in any case
You' have the right clothes at the proper place!

And that today you have so many guests
and that they'll bring you a delicious cake
Yes, that would be right! We hope you say:
"I love today! All things are just the way
I like. It's good to have a birthday anyway!"

And that in the future with no problems
You'll be taken good care of as you get older
So, in a few words, the reason we are here:
To tell you one big "Happy birthday, dear!"

Remarks about the translation
So... I couldn't quite get all the rhymes, and I had to change the original text a little - for example the people from the second stanza are not "kind and gay", but "loud and kind". Anyway, I think this preserves the original mood, so enjoy :)

Hi grimoire

Nice work!! Maybe we could get this to rhyme?

I've tagged your text so as we can spend a bit of time on it

Also, as Lilly loves poetry too, I will cc her to see if she has some suggestions for us.

Oi Lilly

Do you think we can make this rhyme?

I think Grimore has gotten many excellent rhymes here!

I'll try to spend some time on it, but I'm not sure if I can make it sound even better

Absolutely, its just the first paragraph that needs looking at, the rest is excellent as I said in the beginning

An admirable translation that captures the original mood very well. Just a small remark: We wish you in this new year of your life, what was good - to stay or (even better, in my opinion): We wish you that in this new year of your life, what was good - will stay.
