Values rose much higher in the northern hemisphere, where the bomb testing took place. The maximum peak was reached in 1963, and values decreased thereafter. A summer peak and winter low were seen each year, reflecting the fact that the tritium was displaced in large amounts in the higher parts of the atmosphere and leaked in the spring and summer into the lower parts.
