| | I removed translation request into French. Other experts are free to do what they want about the other translation requests, but I don't want it to be translated into French, as some of our translators from Turkish into French are minor, and muslim, moreover there is a law about pornography in texts who are seen by minors in France (and this is a French site)...

| | I think that the vulgarity here is meant more as a curse than literally, like f--k you, and its cousins in all languages. |

| serbaHozzászólások száma: 655 | this is language.and languages cover all part of communication good and bad.you can not pretend bad part is not a part of a language. if we are learner of a language we should learn it well and completely.
we are translating like a doctor that he is practicing his job.
this is like being a doctor. what are we going to say if we were a doctor oh no I can not cure your that organ because it is pornographic..this is saying exactly like this.
but I have nothing to say if there is law for that. I understand that and obey it.thanks God I live in Turkey a free and democratic country even it is not eaxctly like that at least more than some others that are presumed to be more than Turkey...

| | A doctor won't use the word "pussy" to name the female's genital organ, serba. This vocabular is used for porn, and not medicine. If you were a Doctor in Medicine, you wouldn't say to your female patient : "undress, so that I can have a look to your pussy". Sorry!, you'd tell, "I've got to do a gynecologic exam of your vulva ", or "of your vagina". If you said that, "law" wouldn't have anything to say against, but "introducing something that isn't even told about in a "pussy" is more ressembling to a porn script than to a gynecologic exam, sorry...

| serbaHozzászólások száma: 655 | of course a doctor doesn't not use that word but translators can.because vulva and pussy have different meanings for a translator and he has to use which is needed.and there is a word "pussy" as well as "vulva" in the language and we can not pretend that there is not.Of course I am not saying that we will say those words anywhere and everywhere but this is translating activity and this is the place for translating and all related to language.and thank you. |

| | This text, how it is displaid is more ressembling a porn text, because of "put in your pussy", to be precise. And if the text is describing words from a doctor, "pussy" doesn't suit.
The lack of context can induce one that doesn't know about into misunderstanding. So if you edit with "I'll have a look to your vagina" it will be fine. Sorry, but I'm obliged to be vigilent with terms used, because of the reasons I told in my first post.
And this isn't so true that translators are allowed to use terms ressembling porn terms in a site which is wide open to minors (see link in my first post, I know it is in French but after all this is French law and we simply can't exceed its frame, and this is why the text was retired momentaneously from the public area) is it ok with what I said?
Be aware that it isn't because these words were shocking me personaly that I did something about the text, it is simply because I'm aware of what is to be publicly featured in a site opened to minors, and of what is not to be publicly featured, according to French law articles which are clear enough about this topic. |

| | I have read this thread regarding the translation and I must agree that Francky has a point in saying "A doctor won't use the word "pussy" to name the female's genital organ, serba. This vocabular is used for porn, and not medicine." I think that not even a gynechologist would use the word vagina very often. Doctors tend to refer to the groin, the intimate parts, the genital organ, and so on in order not to offend a patient. And when talking about the vagina doctors tend to use more specific expressions as portio, labia minora, clitoris etc. The word 'pussy' would be rejected in every academic conversation or paper in medicine if it isn't used in describing somekind of hostile expression in forensic psychiatry or some kind of psychiatric or neurologically compulsory behaviour regarding the word which is often seen as for instance in oral Tourettes syndrome.
Serbas comparison between a doctor and a translator is understoodable, and as I think right, but that doesn't mean that a doctor says exactly every possible word to the patient nor that the translator translates everything without hesitating or reacting to style and context. CC: serba Francky5591 |

I'm waiting for you to edit the English translation using medicine terms that you can pick up above in Porfyhr's post (he is a professional -Doctor in Medicine- ) and after your edit, I will free the two other translation requests I left pending ( Italian and German)
Sorry to be so drastic, I'm just doing my admin job, you know...
Thanks, cheers!

| | Listen, this discussion is more pornographic than the original text. In the text, the phrase, "put it in your pussy", to which I just edited the translation has nothing really to do with doctors, vaginas, or even women.
It's probably said between two men, and it's a curse, an expression of anger, like "f--k you", as I said above, at 3 August 2007 05:09. If you gentlemen had read that post, you might have avoided this whole pussy/vagina discussion.
Maybe it would have been more recognizable as an expression of anger if serba had used the real translation of "am", which is "c--t", a word I personally find much more offensive, but which I know is very commonly used in certain subcultures in the UK.
This translation has now been validated, but the discussion is continuing here if you gentlemen want to continue. |

| | Sorry, but about your 3 August 2007 05:09 post, I had a look at it, (why wouldn't have I), but I must say that it was a little short as an explanation. And then why did serba talked about a doctor practising his job? He is Turkish isn't he? So I believed what he told about the text.
I sent you a message explaning why I was worrying about this text, and with the few explanation you gave on 3 August 2007 05:09, I'm sorry, but with what serba said, which was much more than one line, it didn't occur to me this text was about an insult from man to man, and not words said by a doctor to one female patient.
One who would read all the discussion wouldn't stop on your post then say : "well, it isn't at all about a doctor and his female patient this text is about, we were mistaking about that..."
Anyway, I don't regret at all being vigilent with texts , what would have avoided all this discussion was a little bit more explicit reply in my inbox, as I think my message into yours was explicit enough... |

| | serba, I thought your comment was very clear, comparing what we do to what a doctor does. I don't understand why Francky misunderstood it. |
| | 3 Augusztus 2007 19:23 |
| | You know what? Having just reviewed the situation here (the whole discussion of female anatomy distracted me from the matter at hand), I think that this translation SHOULD be removed from the site, because it's not a case of someone having received this message and wanting to know what it means - it's a case of someone wanting to know how to say this rather crude curse in other languages.
I apologize for any misunderstandings caused by what I wrote above. CC: Francky5591 |
