And from that I can say you dont really know the "traditional chinese" as a language, but a encoding format. All your traslation is just a transcoding from simplified words to traditional words, and THIS IS NOT A TRANSLATION!
So, please, before you submit any of your translation to traditional chinese, check it again and make sure that you really know the words you used in the translation is the correct translation and used in "Traditional Chinese" (Taiwan and HongKong and oversea) | | 3 Január 2007 02:42 | | Hi abbaabba,
I saw your message to jp about Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese, saying that the two languages are exactly the same.
Technically you are right. However, whisky's approach to treating them as different languages is right too. Usually when we translate into Simplified Chinese, we conform to the common terms used in China. When we translate into Traditional Chinese, we conform to the Taiwan way (which incidentally is usually the same as Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, even though Singapore uses Simplified Chinese and tries to conform to China's language habits).
For example, the translation for "webmaster" can be “网主â€or "站长" in Simplified Chinese. But it is always “站長â€in Traditional Chinese.
Hope that clears the misunderstandings. And I wish you success in your research work on Chinese.
