lenab, my whole point here is that an English-speaking person would NOT understand the translation as it now stands - it would need further explanation. I actually think what you just wrote (I don't remember seeing that when you first did the translation) would actually be more easily understood.

Here goes my poor translation:
There's an important statement (lit.: truth) that one should know in life. It's better in English: It takes one to know one.
In Swedish, it's something like this: som man känner sig själv känner man andra
