If you kissed my lips, I could be in your warm embrace and if you whispered in my ear: I love you, then I'd be the happiest girl on earth. I can not be happy now. Do you know why? Well, you are kissing another girl. You have another girl in your arms and you whisper in that girl's ear: I love you. |

This is very good, I'd just use "you would whisper in my ear" and "another" as a sole word.
What do you think?
I guess we won't even need a poll for I can see the meaning is perfectly correct (despite my still poor Swedish ) | | | 18 Juli 2008 15:13 | | | Yes, I guess you're right. I separated another to have som stress on the "other", but that might not be needed.
In Swedish the "viskar" is in present tense, but I Think I've learned that the past tense conditional should be matched with an imperfect. Do you think I should have "would" ? | | | 18 Juli 2008 15:25 | | | Exactly! You've learned it right, now we have to use it correctly.
In a conditional sentence, you should use the combination: If + Simple past + Conditional.
That's why I asked you a conditional form for "whisper".
If you kissed my lips, I could be in your warm embrace and you would w hisper in my ear: I love you . Then,
Do you agree? | | | 18 Juli 2008 15:36 | | | Well, I'd say : If you kissed me, I could be in[...] and you wispered, then I would be.... What do you say? | | | 18 Juli 2008 15:45 | | | I'm sorry lenab, I'd say that's wrong in English.
For using it that way you should have a second conditional sentence, but in Swedish you don't.
It should be:
If you kissed my lips, I could be in your warm embrace and if you whispered in my ear: I love you, then I'd be the happiest girl on earth.
See what I mean?
That would be the ideal construction, but it's a little different from the original.
| | | 18 Juli 2008 15:45 | | | Don't you think there are three things going with thw "if" here? If they all three are fullfilled, she would be the happiest girl...That's how I interpret it. Is it wrong, do you think? | | | 18 Juli 2008 15:46 | | | Please read again my post above, I've edited it to make myself understood better. | | | 18 Juli 2008 15:48 | | | Ok, then I agree!! I just didn't dare do that change. Thanks! | | | 18 Juli 2008 15:51 | | | Now you got it!
