He was a womanizer, and he went to jail for drugs
Iranian university student Poyan Reza, who went with his live-in girlfriend to a night club and took two female servers home with him on August 5th, 2006, was convicted of possession of controlled substances and sentenced to six months in prison. After the two female servers had been beaten in the home they were taken to, they took a taxi back to the night club. Then, Azimdoust went to the night club in order to get his change as well as to get the driver's license he had left as a security. The police, who had been called to the scene when the girls complained, became suspicious of the accused and searched his car, finding about three grams of marijuana. Pouyan Reza, who was tried in the Nicosia High Criminal Court for possession and use of marijuana in the court of Chief Magistrate Mehmet Türker and Judge Peri Hakkı was sentenced by a majority ruling yesterday to six years of prison. Senior Judge İlker Sertbay emphasized that the character of the accused, who had taken drugs, taken two women out of the night club with his girlfriend, beaten the girls, and driven a car under the influence of the drugs, was obvious. He said that if people like the accused did not exist, drug dealers would not be able to sell drugs. He added that the principle of "common good" was usually used incorrectly in legal decisions, and this led to the decision in the direction of having this defendant spend one year in prison. The Nicosia High Criminal Court also announced the decision yesterday to convict Hüseyin Öngün, who had been accused of having a gun and live ammunition in his possession, and sentence him to four years of prison.
| Anmerkninger gjeldende oversettelsen | Note: I'm not sure I understood the part about Azimdoust - it was awfully convoluted. It isn't clear to me from the original text 1) who Azimdoust is, and 2) who took the taxi back to the club. |

"Because they had been beaten in the home they were taken to, after they took a taxi to the night club, in order to get their change as well as to get the driver's license they had left as a security, the police, who had been called to the scene when the girls complained, by Azimdoust, who had gone to the night club, became suspicious of the accused and searched his car, finding about three grams of marijuana."
This part in the original text is so complicated. I also had difficulty in understanding it. But,
1)Azimdoust is the another name of the accused – maybe his surname.
2)Girls took a taxi back to the club. Since they were beaten in the house, they returned to the club.
According to this, it reads as follows:
“After the two female servers had been beaten in the home they were taken to, they took a taxi back to the night club. Then, Azimdoust went to the night club in order to get his change as well as to get the driver's license he had left as a security. The police, who had been called to the scene when the girls complained, became suspicious of the accused and searched his car, finding about three grams of marijuana.â€
If you have no doubt, I’m gonna edit this part accordingly and then validate it. | | | 4 Oktober 2009 03:30 | | | Who is Azimdoust? If he is the same person as the accused, then I totally agree with your edits - it makes complete sense in English now, except for this one detail. | | | 4 Oktober 2009 03:32 | | | Also, the accused's name is spelled differently in different parts of the original. I just noticed that I followed their spelling in the translation, too. | | | 7 Oktober 2009 14:06 | | | Hi again,
first of all, so sorry for my late reply.
I'm sure that Azimdoust is the same person as the accused. Because it's written in the original that "...gece kulübüne giden Azimdoust'tan kızların şikayetçi olması üzerine...". You can trust me, Laura.
Btw, till you said it, I even didn't noticed his name is spelled differently within the original.
As you agree with my edits, too, I'll change that part and finish this evaluation right now. | | | 7 Oktober 2009 16:50 | | | |
