On August 25, 1992, all of Abkhazia was shaken by the appearance of the commander of the Georgian forces in Abkhazia, Georgij Karkarashvili, on Sukhumi television. In his announcement the newly fledged colonel promised not to pity 100,000 Georgians for the sake of the destruction of the entire Abkhazian nation to a man... from suckling babies to the very oldest people. In a short time Shevardnadze would call his officer a reserved young man of chivalrous thinking. The appearance of Gii Karkarashvili shook not only the Abkhazians, who saw the broadcast live in Gudauta, but also the Georgian population.
Precisely this appearance dotted all the i's and showed the true face of the agressor.
The Abkhazian people did not falter! It's not by accident that Karkarashvili included among those who could meet the occupation forces with arms in hand the Russians, Armenians, Georgians...
