We have known each other since 2002 and in a short time we have become good friends. Algis is a collector of glasses and bottle-openers, but despite of this we still have found a common language for the swaps. We usually meet three times a year and then I always prepare some new glasses for him, sometimes bottle-openers. For this I have got many quality decora from Lithuania, but also from Kazakhstan, Moldova, Switzerland and other countries. We stay in touch permanently on the net, and Algis has also visited me in my home museum.

Hi.

Two problems:

1. I always prepare some new glasses for him, eventually bottle-openers (difficult sentence structure. Maybe you wanted to say I always prepare some new glass for him and eventually bottle-openers.

2. For this I have got many quality etiquettes from Lithuania. (I have no idea what a quality etiquette is in English. If you explain the term I can find a word for you.)

Hi Dramati!

Well, from the text, one cannot find out what kind of etiquette it is, just that it is a ´quality etiquette´. I think it must be something you can collect and swap, but there is no trace of specification in the text. In Slovak, he also wrote ´kvalitné etikety´, which are exactly the same words in English as well...

What´s wrong with sentence in point No.1? You suggested the same thing as I had written. Oh, and why not put ´glass´ into plural? It does have a plural form, doesn´t it? Oh, and it is about the glass we drink from, not simple window glass.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions, I´ll try to correct them somehow.

yes, you can say glasses in english, but that still leaves the problem with "sometimes bottle openers". Are we talking here about bottle openers like cork-screws? Or simple bottle openers. Either way do you prepare them or produce them? Is this about glass or glasses and bottle opener production or produrement? That is the puzzle for me. If you find and trade these things, you would procure them, not produce them or prepare them.

OK.

Pripravím- I prepare. It can mean that he creates them himself, but also that buys/gets them, from the text we can´t find out.

It is not a cork screw, but that kind of opener you use for opening e.g. a bottle of beer.

To ´´sometimes...´´, The person always prepares some gifts for Algis, which are mostly glasses, but sometimes bottle-openers.

All in all: in the text, you cannot find out whether that person produces all these things, only that he swaps them. For what did he get those etiquettes, that is also unspecified, as well as the kind of the etiquettes.

So maybe purcures would be a good choice for that sentence: I always prepare some new glasses should read purcure (since she doesn't manufacture them, only finds them or gets them in some way for the swap?)

I think that should make it ok...etiquettes still has me puzzled. etiquette: Etiquette, one aspect of decorum, is a code that governs the expectations of social behavior.

This is the English for etiquette, so you see why I am confused. Can you help me here with finding another word for that last sentence?

Hi Dramati,

I changed etiquette to decorum, so that it would not be misunderstood.

Purcure?? I haven´t found it not even in the dictionary.... :s But I think prepare could be left as it is, because it is exactly the same in Slovak and keeps the two-sided meaning of that sentence.

EDIT: I´ve written decora, because of Latin. -um neutral singular, -a neutral plural.

At last, ´It´s alive!´ ( I have just read Frankenstein... )

Okay, thanks for your suggestions, let´s see what happens to the votes, but I´m sure other Cucumers will find it OK.
