Text

Source language: Polish

Justynowi zawdzięczamy ukazanie prawd wiary chrześcijańskiej wykorzystując do tego celu filozofię pogańską. Szukał on dialogu chrześcijaństwa z filozofią pogan posługując się jej terminami i pojęciami, aby przybliżyć jedyną prawdziwą naukę, którą sam poznał. Jest człowiekiem dialogu – wiary z rozumem. Był najsłynniejszym i najwybitniejszym filozofem chrześcijańskim II wieku po Chrystusie.

Title
We owe to Justin
Translation
English

Translated by cwirek
Target language: English

We owe to Justin the demonstration of Christian true faith through pagan philosophical concepts. He was looking for dialogue between Christianity and pagan philosophy and used its terms to show others the only true wisdom which he had got to know by himself. He is the one who created the dialogue of faith and intellect. He was also the most well known and the most outstanding Christian philosopher of the second century after Christ.

Me again

I have made a few edits; please let me know if you don't agree. I am not sure about the first sentence yet, but maybe Aneta or someone else will have an opinion about it

Here is your translation before my edits:

We owe to Justine showing / demonstrating of christian true faith with pagan philosophical concepts. He was looking for dialogue between christianity and pagan philosophy using it's terms to show others the only one true science which he got to know by himself. He is the person, who created the dialogue of faith and intellect. He was also the most known and the most outstanding christian philosopher of the second century after Christ.

Hi dear friends!

My suggestions, though I'm not sure about the first sentence too:

"We owe to Justine a vision of Christian faith in relation to pagan philosophical concepts(?). He was looking for dialogue between Christianity and pagan philosophy and was using it's terms to show others the only true knowledge/wisdom? which he had got to know by himself. He is the person, who created the dialogue of faith and intellect.
He was also the most known and the most outstanding Christian philosopher of the second century after Christ".

I like your suggestions! What do you think, cwirek?

Would 'ideas' be better than 'concepts' in the first sentence? (just a suggestion)

Any preference for 'knowledge' or 'wisdom'? I think they both work better than 'science' here.

One more option, dear Lein:

"We owe to Justine showing the Christian faith throughout pagan philosophical concepts/ideas"

That is more literal translation of the sentence.

Thank you!
'throughout' doesn't really work here (it means something like 'during the whole of' so I have edited with your earlier comments and 'through'.
