In a response to "The Middle Eastern Elite of Niva Viner", by Arie Dayan. ("Haaretz" newsletter, 30.10).
I would like to make things straight. The Aysef Fund was founded by Edmond J. Safra, his wife Lily and me, and not as published. The Aysef Fund, in its extended activity, made Safra the man and his well-known, generous legacy immortal. Nowadays, for more than 12 years, Lily Safra has continued her husband's legacy by staying with the Aysef Fund and by making contributions of more than one million dollars each year. The Aysef Fund is proud to be an organization. | Remarks about the translation | The text is full of spelling mistakes, and letters which accidentally pushed in the keyboard. It is very hard to read and understand, but I did my best. Everything I wasn't sure of - was checked in Google. :) |

Last messages | | | | | 14 May 2007 05:07 | | | I've made quite a few edits to the English, but there is one thing I couldn't correct, because I don't understand Hebrew. The word "accompanying" is definitely not correct, but I don't know what it should be - what is the meaning here?
Also, could you please double-check that the meaning is still correct (after my edits)? | | | 14 May 2007 09:45 | | | some comments;
1. I didn't write it in the remarks feild, but I think that the text is not full, and some words were left out - but i'm not sure, and it should be taken under a considaration. It DOES make sense without those words, but it sounds like there should be a continue to the sentance ("The Aysef Fund is proud to be an organization" - organization of what? in Hebrew it makes less sense then in English).
2. I've read the text after the corrections - it is still keeping its original meaning (thanx for the corrections - you correct me a lot latly ).
3. The hebrew word which i translated as "accompanying" means to join someone or something in his/its way. My hebrew dictionary writes:
1. To walk along/with someone, to join someone in his way.
2. To add. To join.
3. A musical accompanying.
[it's my translation to the hebrew definitions].
in the text it means that Lily is always there, keeping on the organization, taking care... | | | 14 May 2007 09:59 | | | Thanks a lot ahikamr, I could evaluate the French version, and it's OK with it, I'll validate this translation into French, which has got the same meaning as your translation.
Expert Ittaïhen told me about the badly typed original text, and I guess it wasn't easy to translate because of that...
Toda raba! | | | 14 May 2007 15:36 | | | Thank you ahikamr - I changed "accompanying" to "staying with" and "contributions" to "making contributions" just to keep it grammatically correct. |
