O que dizer, pra tocar o teu coração
Text
Submitted by karllos37
Source language: Portuguese brazilian

O que dizer
Pra tocar o teu coração
E te surpreender
Se tudo conheces de mim
Bem antes de eu falar
Não tenho em mim
Palavras pra te convencer
Se até o desejo
De te adorar vem de ti
Sou só uma criança
Me ensina o que fazer

Sinceramente, eu não sei
Por que me escolhestes pra ti
E que valor os teus olhos viram em mim
Pode alguém como tu
Amar tanto alguém como eu
E me enviar pra ir em Teu nome.
Remarks about the translation

Title
What to say to touch your heart
Translation
English

Translated by hitchcock
Target language: English

What can I say
To touch your heart
And surprise you
When you know everything about me
Well before I speak
I cannot find in myself
Words to persuade you
When even the desire
To adore you comes from you
I am just a child
Teach me what to do

Honestly, I don't know
Why you chose me for yourself
And what value your eyes have seen in me
How can someone like you
Love someone like me so much
And command me to go in Your name.

We need to work this a little bit more. There are some problems with the translation because English is not logical to the Latin mind. For instance, phrases like:

What to say
To touch your heart

This could either be What can I say to touch your heart or what should I say to touch your heart, never "what to say". Try to think like a native English speaker and read it back in English a few times to see how it would sound.

Another one: And surprises you
When you know everything about me

Here you would say and it surprises you when you know everything about me.

Look it over.

Hi hitchcock,
Could you check my final version of this translation and tell me if it still faithfully reflects the meaning of the original Brazilian?

Hello Ian. Can I say what I think?

I'm not sure if > 'for someone like you' fits good here because in Portuguese this would change a little: Para alguém como você/tu.

Maybe I'm wrong but I'd translate this part 'Pode alguém como tu amar tanto alguém como eu' as: How can someone like you, love someone like me so much?

Regards

Thanks for your very clear explanation, Angelus!
That's actually what Hitchcock had before I "fixed" it...
Oops...
