Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev, Russian scientist, was born on February 8, 1834 and died on February 2, 1907 in St. Petersburg.
Mendeleyeev's grandfather who was the youngest of 17 children, published the first newspaper in Siberia; his father was a high school principal. Mendeleyeev received primary education in exile. When his father died, his mother moved to the west in order to provide him with better study conditions.
