Title
I am the way I am the light I am the dark...
Text
Submitted by jeh_eths
Source language: English

I am the way
I am the light
I am the dark inside the night
I hear your hopes
I feel your dreams
And in the dark I hear your screams
Don't turn away
Just take my hand
And when you make your final stand
I'll be right there
I'll never leave
All I ask of you
Believe

Title
Sou o caminho, sou a luz
Dịch
Portuguese brazilian

Translated by goncin
Target language: Portuguese brazilian

Sou o caminho
Sou a luz
Sou a escuridão dentro da noite
Ouço tuas esperanças
Sinto teus sonhos
Na escuridão ouço teus gritos
Não evites me olhar
Apenas pega minha mão
E quando estiveres em teu momento final
Eu estarei bem lá
Jamais partirei
Tudo o que te peço

Minha sugestão:

Sou o caminho
Sou a luz
Sou a escuridão na noite
Ouço suas esperanças
Sinto seus sonhos
E na escuridão, escuto seus gritos
Não dê as costas para mim
Apenas pegue minha mão
E quando você chegar ao Dia do Juízo Final
Estarei lá
Nunca o abandonarei
Tudo que peço a você
Tenha fé.

Juízo final
toque final
What's final stand? I saw that it's a last effort or something like that.

Acredito que uma tradução mais direta seria "resistência final", só que neste contexto, eu interpretei o "final stand" como "o final da vida" ou então como "o Dia do Juízo Final":

"Pray for salvation. The end of time is now at hand. War machines devour the masses. The human race shall now be damned. Fall of the self righteous. They shall drown in filth. Drenched in the blood of the innocent. Victims of our own free will. Legions of sinners bathe in the blood of the weak. Worship the dollar - creation lies in defeat. The world is falling. Victims of liars and thieves. Take for their own ends and bow at the altar of greed. Welcome to the end. I embrace the coming of damnation. The fall of Babylon, and the end of a worthless creation. Extermination - destroyed the world by our own hands. Coming of the fires, and the fall of modern man. I await the flames of hell to consume the earth. The beast is loose upon the earth. The cleansing of the human birth. Destroy the cancer - the cancer of the human race. A disease that feeds on the weak and exploits religious faith. Unleash Armageddon, and the prophecies of fire. Vengeance from the heavens. Final days of the liars. Witness Armageddon, witness the fall of man. Cleansing fires from the heavens. Humanity's final stand."

I think that this is a religious text. When you make your final stand refers to when you die.

In this case, I traslated "final strand" into "momento final" ("final moment". It's quite euphemistic...

Thanks, folks!

Sounds great!

I´d just change the "pega" to "pegue" and "acredita" to "acredite" (subjuntivo)

Anita,

I usually translate using "você" and its relating verbal forms, but this time I preferred to translate into the good'n'old 2nd person singular ('tu'), trying to sound more poetic. This way, "pega" and "acredita" are according to the 2nd person singular, but imperative, not subjunctive.

Thanks for your great help on this! You're already some points richer from my own!

thanks, you´re (of course) absolutely right, I thought you had just missed this one out, when the one who had got it wrong was actually me because I failed to consider the fact that you used "tu" and not "você" :-) My mistake, sorry, I´m not used to using "tu" - if that´s any excuse!
(and, again, of course you´re right that it´s the imperative and not subjuntive. I think I need another cup of coffee before I make any more silly comments on Cucumis today!! :-) )

Anita,

Don't feel this way!

In fact, I'd to do some research to find the right verbal forms, because 2nd persons are indeed very uncommon nowadays! I just found out that the right imperative negative form for "evitar" is "não evites", I added that "s" right now!

What do we take? Capuccino, espresso, or the traditional one? I need a cup too.

Sorry to be so late, everybody!
Hi Casper,
The usual expression is to make your last stand (as in "General Custer's Last Stand" ). The meaning of this is, you die fighting. In this way, Anita's
resistência final
seems to be closest to the original meaning, because if (if!) I understand
momento final
it would mean just
last moment
without the important feeling of struggling against something.
What would you call Custer's Last Stand (at the "Battle of Little Big Horn" ) in Portuguese, goncin? Have you ever heard of it? Maybe you could use a similar expression, if there is one?

Anyway, you asked, so I answered! I hope it's useful!

goncin: let´s just double up on whatever kind of caffeine we can get hehe ;-) We live and learn...

Ian: as far as I know, Custer´s Last Stand is usually translated to either "a última batalha de Custer" or (less common): "a última ofensiva de Custer".

Thanks, Anita!
I guess nobody liked my suggestion after all anyway: the nuances are probably different in Brazilian...
