riparian vegetation can influence the physical channel morphology of the stream and even the structure of drainage patterns through, for example, bank stabilization by roots and formation of partial or complete large woody debris dams. riffle-pool-glide sequences can be altered through a tree falling into the stream forming a barier to water flow, and woody debris and leaves can accumulate in front of obstructions on the stream bed and provide refuges from flow for macroinvertebrates and fish.
