Title
bir gun yanina geldirimde bir elimde silah bir...
Text
Submitted by etincelle
Source language: Turski

bir gün yanına geldiğimde bir elimde silah bir elimde gül, ya gülü alıp beni öpersin ya da silahi alıp beni vurursun be gülüm.
Remarks about the translation
I've changed the source language from Kurdish to Turkish and edited some diacritics and typos, the original before edits was:

"bir gun yanina geldirimde bir elimde silah bir elimde gül yan gülü alip beni öpersin ya da silahi alip beni vurursun be gülüm."

Hi Granger21

I'd just put a comma between "other" and "either".

I've polled so we should be able to validate quite quickly

shoot me my rose is awkward. He has a rose in one hand and a gun in the other. Does he mean the rose will kill herself or she will shoot his rose he is holding in his hand? I think there is a problem with the translation.

Hi dramati

I don't think there is a problem with the translation, I accept the poetic turn of phrase and understand it as meaning:

"you'll shoot my rose for me"

her/his decision will be definitive (no gender is indicated)

and s/he will be capable even of destroying the eternal symbol of love (the rose) in order to emphasise her negative stance

Well, Tantine, if shoot me my rose means you'll shoot my rose for me" it would make a better translation to edit it as such. I actually like you'll shoot my rose for me much better than what was written.

Hi dramati

And what about the poetic side of it? I don't mind editing it in formal English, but I do like the pathetic side of the declaration.

Hi Granger21

We don't seem to have many Kurdish speakers to come and help us with the evaluation, so I will decide all on my own

I'll validate your translation

Enjoy your points

Too bad our Kurdish expert ronikurdi didn't log in since August 2007, I would have asked him wether translation has to read with or without a comma between "me"and "my rose". (apparently the kurdish syntax doesn't tell, or the requester forgot to mention it because she doesn't know Kurdish)

I'll validate the French text according to the English one, but leave a comment under the French text about that point...

and it should be edited the following way Tantine:
----------
"one day when I came to you with a weapon in one hand and a rose in the other, either you'll take the rose and kiss me or you'll take the weapon and shoot me, my rose."
----------

"my rose" is an expression of affection people use, like "my darling/my love"

Have you seen my other edits four posts above Francky? There are two more places to be edited:

1. "when I came" instead "i'll come"
2. "kiss me" instead "be mine"

Sorry, I had understood the English version to mean "and you would shoot my rose for me"

I left it in the "you would shoot me my rose" without a comma, as it would have been a poetic way of saying it in English.

Thanks for your help smy and Francky

that part is ok now but you should also edit these two Tantine ,

1. "when I came" instead "i'll come"
2. "kiss me" instead "be mine

Hi smy,

There is a problem of concordance here

If it is "when I came" (past tense), it must then be "you took" and not "you'll take" (future), and "shot" not "shoot".

See what I mean?

Hi! yes, I see but it's possible in Turkish so... ... but still there is the second part
--->("kiss me" instead "be mine"
