Judging by the English version, the Bulgarian translation has nothing to do with the appeal to "stop hassling". Moreover, it is given a touch of slang, which I consider inappropriate. Let me emphasize the fact that I'm judging by the English version only - I don't understand Italian. |

Stop squeezing my balls. :-)
Then the English translation must be wrong. It should sound like: Stop squeezing my balls. |

Stop harassing (me,us, etc.). Въобще, ÑмÑтам, че когато Ñе прави превод на идиоми, е по-важно да Ñе предаде ÑмиÑъла, а не да Ñе превежда Ñбора от отделните думи. Ðай-коректното в такива Ñлучаи е да Ñе дадат и двете значениÑ, като Ñе уточни, че Ñтава дума за идиом.
Then the English translation is wrong indeed. It should go: Stop harassing me. Generally my opinion is that when translating idioms, it's important to convey the meaning of the phrase as a whole, not the literal meanings of the composing words. I think the most correct action should be giving both versions - literal and idiomatic. |

| | I am afraid we overdid it on this one and large part of it is my fault. It was just that we have an Italian idiom to be translated and I said I do not agree with the Bulgarian translation. It was literal and that is what made me think it is wrong. It turned out it was literaly correct but it didn't convey the meaning well enough. So we had quiet a few opinions exchanged as you can see and probably that is what made the requester ask for an administrator. Other than that I don't know why Anuit asked for the page to be checked.
For anyone interested you can check the opinions of dramati and okal concerning the English translation: http://www.cucumis.org/translation_41_t/view-the-translation_v_109799.html
I think we have devoted enough time on this piece. I am sure the requester has a good idea of the possible translations already. |
