Last messages | | | | | 19 July 2008 23:39 | | | Well, done, kfeto - you clearly put a lot of time and effort into these.
Group A
1 - mostly --> most of them, with 2 --> with one other person
2 - in this group, at least 2 generations are educated in some way, in fact highly educated
4 - lowest amount of ownership
5 - "marley flooring and a luster" = ???
6 - advanced technological --> high technology
9 - I don't think "different" is the right translation for "farklılaşan" - maybe "that set them apart"?
10 - fixed phone --> land line
11 - cable TV
13 - frontdoor --> front door
That's all I have time to look at right now - I'll check the 2nd half later. | | | 21 July 2008 00:12 | | kfetoNumber of messages: 953 | thank you kafetzou.
I edited most:
farklilasan, i think, applies to talepler here and means 'that vary/are different'
farklastiran is what you're thinking of?
the 'marley flooring' i had to look up and apparently is originally from english and is used in it(though maybe limited to floorprofessionals only) so i decided to leave it since no alternative came to mind
'luster' again i had to look up and what is meant is a chandelier or some decorative fixture for the lightbulb. | | | 21 July 2008 01:31 | | | 1) different from what?
2) I think it's parquet flooring.
3) decorative light fixture
Living room has hardwood floor en lighting is with luster/fixture. --> In the living room, there is parquet flooring and the house is lit with decorative light fixtures. | | | 21 July 2008 01:33 | | | Why didn't you edit the other ones? | | | 21 July 2008 01:45 | | | Group B
4-Ownership of the house they live in is slightly higher than Group A. --> The amount of house ownership is slightly higher than in Group A.
5-In the living room there is parquet as well as laminate flooring. In the living room there are mostly decorative light fixtures, but there may also be some naked bulbs.
8-responsability --> responsibility
9-non-packaged --> bulk (and use this in the 2nd half of the sentence also)
10-fixed phone --> land line
11- You translated "ücretli TV" as "cable TV" for group A, but as "pay-for-TV" in group B - why?
13- taken of --> taken off
14- capitalize "the" | | | 21 July 2008 01:48 | | | Sorry - correction to my own correction: Group A, 2: çok iyi eğitimli = very well educated. | | | 21 July 2008 01:50 | | kfetoNumber of messages: 953 | ?? i edited all but three and for these i stated in my post the reasons, to which you replied.
and now i edited two of these also according to your second post except the farklilasan
about which:
you might also ask 'set them apart from what?'
i mean different as in varying/various | | | 21 July 2008 01:54 | | kfetoNumber of messages: 953 | Hmm ok it seems i we were posting at the same time and since the page doesn't 'refresh' i didn't see the second set of suggestion till just now. | | | 21 July 2008 02:03 | | kfetoNumber of messages: 953 | thank you for your help Kafetzou | | | 21 July 2008 02:25 | | | Group A
1- ... most of them live alone or with one other person.
And how about my correction for #2? | | | 21 July 2008 02:28 | | | BTW, I don't know if this is for a British audience or a North American one. If it were North American, I would make all of these plural, as follows:
11-Two-thirds possess a personal computer, they prefer cable TV.
13-A high number(74%) do not take off their shoes at the front door.
I guess to avoid the grammatical confusion, we could make sure each one has "they" as the subject. | | | 22 July 2008 05:16 | | | Group A
8 - "shopping" is misspelled. |
