Genus of about 40 species of medium-sized, evergreen, epiphytic or terrestrial orchids native to South America, occuring in warm rainforest. They have conical to ovoid pseudobulbs, from the top of which are produced 2 or more narrowly elongated, lance-shaped, folded, leathery or fleshy leaves. Racemes of fragrant flowers arise from the bases of the pseudobulbs from autumn to spring.
