Translated by Burak Eren
Target language: English

I love my MaviÅŸ.
Remarks about the translation
I think 'mavis' is a name which belongs to a animal in Turkish. You can pronounce 'ÅŸ' letter as 'sh'

"MaviÅŸ" could also be interpreted as "blonde" or "blue-eyed blond" thus the phrase could also read :
"I love my blue-eyed blonde" Tantine 11/3/10

Hi

I think it could also be: "maviÅŸ"-->blonde and blue-eyed...

Hi User10

Maybe we should add as an alternative in the remarks field "I love my blue-eyed blonde"

What do you think?

Hi Tantine ,

The turkish word "maviÅŸ" means "blue-eyed blonde" and the english word "mavis" is the name of the Song thrush. As far as I know there is no turkish word "mavis". Maybe we should ask an expert in Turkish, just to be sure...

Everything is possible about the meaning of mavis. But I can say mavis is a Turkish word.I can explain why it writes as mavis instead of MaviÅŸ.Because in your keyboard there's not Åž letter. Not only in yours,it is so in all the foreign countries but Turkey

MaviÅŸ can be a name of a girl, like the way you say,of an animal etc.

Hi Burak

Then I think we should add the alternatives in the remarks field as Tantine suggested. (You don't need to explain why they used "s" instead of "ÅŸ", I wasn't referring to this. The fact that you mentioned only the animal-name version made me think that you confused the meanings of "maviÅŸ" and "mavis"

Hi everyone,

I will cc a Turkish Expert to help us out on this one since the to alternatives are very different.

Hi 44hazal44, can you help us decide whether "maviÅŸ", in this context, is the name of an animal or whether it means "blue-eyed blonde" Thanks

I am sorry but I think only expert can't decide what the MaviÅŸ means.I mean it could be everthing. Also it could be a name of a girl blue eyed but she hasn't to be blonde
Maybe it can be the name of a cat.For me,talking what this name belongs to,a girl,an animal,a guy is not the thing we have to do.

Hi everyone,

Actually, Burak Eren is right, we can't be sure about that.

I think the best solution is to do as Tantine said. Let's preserve the translation as it is and add the necessary informations in the remarks field.

And Burak Eren is right again in his post just above, "maviÅŸ" means "blue-eyed", the person who is called "maviÅŸ" can have brown hair, it only refers to the eyes.
