The taut lids of the eyes, forced back over the bulging , lagophthalmic orbits as we saw , were half closed. The head, the scalp ravaged with the violent skin disease, was still swathed in the cloth soaked in vinegar.

Translation
Turkish

Translated by tranquillizer
Target language: Turkish

Şişkinliğinin üzerine baskı yapılmasıyla iyice gerilen göz kapakları - Gördüğümüz kadarıyla (bunlar) lagoftalmik gözler* - yarı kapalıydı.
Kafa derisi ağır deri hastalığı yüzünden tahrip olduğu için kafa, hala sirkeye batırılmış bez ile sarılı idi.
Remarks about the translation
*lagoftalmik gözler => Göz kapaklarındaki bozukluk nedeniyle gözlerin tam kapanmaması durumuna 'lagoftalmi' denir.

Mesud'a yardimlari icin tesekkurler!:)

(Lagoftalmik gözler* görmeye başladığında**, ) kısmına katılmıyorum.
Hastalıklı gözlerin görüp,görmedikleri belli değil. Başka birileri konuyu tartışıyorlar. Aksi halde "kafa derisi" ile kim ilgilenir?

Hallo, dear Lilian!
Here I have a translation I've accepted yesterday, but merdogan does not agree with the edition I've done. Perhaps, I'm mistaken and he is right here, I just need to be sure about it, so I could make the final edition if needed, as soon as possible.
Could you please help us and try to write the meaning of "..lagophthalmic orbits when they saw.." in the first sentence above with other words.
Thanks in advance!

Hi FIGEN,

I think you'd better ask Kafetzou who knows Turkish to help. She will edit whatever it takes to make the original understandable and also help with an accurate translation.

Something is wrong with the original. "whe they saw" makes no sense, no matter what you think "whe" is supposed to be.

Could we ask the submitter to double check the original and let us know what "whe" was supposed to be?

Merhaba, kafetzou!
It seems to me, the submitter is not active anymore, her last visit was in 2010. And the translation was waiting since that time, as well.
Since this request was "Meaning only", I've thought that 'whe' should be 'when', so I've edited the part 'when they saw' as 'görmeye basladığında'(or it could be 'görduklerinde' as well).
But now, I'm more concerned about the thing that I've already accepted the translation. Could you please advise me what to do according this, first! Is it possible somehow to reject the acceptation or reject the translation at all, if needed?
Thank you.

"when they saw" makes no sense in English. "as we saw" would make more sense here and seems more likely, but again it's just a guess. I think that a mistake was made when this translation was accepted for translation.

On the other hand, since the translation has been accepted, I'm not sure what to do now. Maybe Franck can help.

Hi!
I edited the original text with "as we saw"
Thanks for this notification!

Actually, that doesn't solve the problem, Franck. The problem is that the translator translated it as "when they saw", and the translation was accepted. Figen wants to know what she should do now.

Hi, dear kafetzou!
Perhaps, I should edit the translation as:
'Görüldüğü gibi, lagoftalmik gözler'deki şişkinliğinin üzerine baskı yapılmasıyla iyice gerilen göz kapakları, yarı kapalıdır...' ??
Do you think that'd be okay?

Selam Mesud, vaktin varsa, buradaki gelismeyle ilgili yardimini rica ediyorum! Orjinal metinde duzeltme yapildi ve ona gore cevirinin ilk cumlesini bu sekilde degistirdim. Onerin varsa, beklerim.

Şöyle olabilir:

Şişkinliğinin üzerine baskı yapılmasıyla iyice gerilen göz kapakları -anladığımız kadarıyla 'Lagoftalmik keratit'- yarı kapalıydı(-).

Lagophthalmic keratitis is not the same as just describing the eyes (orbits) as lagophthalmic. The disease is not named in the original, it's just a physical description.

On the other hand, I don't think it's worth wasting any more time on this one, for the reasons already stated above.
