Before modern times, as the Muhammadan ummah. Its next concern is with the ummahs of different people of the book, followed by those of the poly-theists. From the societal point of view, Islam recognizes the collective rights of all religious communities to exist and their equalitv before the law. However, the ultimate context and the ultimate goal of this societal pluralism are spiritual in nature.
